melina's book club #10

Hey guys! How are you today? Welcome back to April's book club post. If you didn't know this, I write one of these monthly! I've read so many books, and I'm so behind, that I don't know whether I should add some extra book posts in between these book club posts. For now, I'll keep doing these monthly!

Would any of you be interested in seeing more than one book post a month? Let me know!

So let's get into it! Like always, I'm going to show you all the books I'm going to talk about today. You can click on any of the covers if you're only interested in reading about a certain book.

by your side

“It was hard to remember what I'd been so scared of. Being treated differently? Lack of acceptance? I was the one who hadn't accepted myself for who I was. I was the one who needed to be comfortable in my own skin. I hoped I could do that moving forward.” - Kasie West, By Your Side

I've read a few of Kasie West's books. I think I own a few of them. I'll outright and say that her books are definitely not the deepest of books. They're nice light fluff romances. Since I read two back to back, I think it made it easier to compare the two and see which one I like better.

Autumn was in the library working on a school project with some friends and just as she's about to leave, she has to go to the bathroom. Just as she's about to get out of the Library, she sees all the lights turn off. She runs towards the exit and finds out that she's locked...inside.

Of course Autumn would get locked inside of the library during a long weekend. Little does she know that someone else is locked in there too. Dax.

I like the hate/love type of relationships, and that's kind of what their relationship is. It's not necessarily that they hate each other, but they definitely don't like each other.

I also like the fact that Autumn has anxiety. They do bring some attention to it, which is important for other people who have anxiety and might be able to relate to her.

Overall I really enjoyed the story, and recommend it! If you want to get yourself a copy you can get it US:here or UK:here!

ps i like you

“Words brought us together though they almost kept us apart.

You trusted me with your secrets and then you stole my heart.” - Kasie West, P.S. I Like You

I guess when I really like an author, I try to read everything they've ever released! Last month I read loads of Katie McGarry (and there's one more book by her in this post as well), and this month is the month of Kasie West!

Now, I really enjoyed this post, but I have to say that I liked By Your Side better. I just felt like there was more development in the other one compared to this one. Nonetheless I still thought the story was cute, like all of Kasie West's books.

One day Lily was in class when she decided to write some lyrics of a song on her desk. The next day she saw that someone completed the lyrics and added a message to her! What starts as vandalism on school property ends up becoming a close bond. Leaving anonymous notes for each other on a daily basis.

When Lily figures out that her pen pal is a boy, she has to find out who he is. Throughout the story she goes on trying to figure out who she's been talking to. Sharing deep dark secrets with, and having conversations she's never had with anyone before.

I sometimes felt like the plot was lacking in character development, and while I feel like it's cute, I wasn't a fan of Lily or the male counterpart at times. It's still a cute plot, and if you're looking for a cute and quick read I recommend you check it out! You can get yourself a copy US:here or UK:here!

take me on (pushing the limits #4) by katie mcgarry - ★★★ 1/2

take me on

“I'm in love with you. I'm in love with you and I don't know how to make you feel better. I'm in love with you and I shouldn't be. I'm in love with you and once you figure out who I am, you're not going to love me. I'm in love with you and I seem to fuck up the ones who love me back.” - Katie McGarry, Take Me On

You all should know that I love Katie McGarry as an author. She writes about broken people. People I can relate to in one way or another, because they're not perfect. They're not living that life that seems super far-fetched.

I will start by saying that this was probably my least favorite book from the Pushing the Limits series. Actually, it wasn't my least favorite, probably the second book, which was Beth's story was my least favorite. This is definitely a close second though.

Even though it was my second least favorite book in the series, it still was a pretty good read! I still gave it a 3 and a half star rating. Like always, Katie McGarry wrote this book beautifully. She has such a way with words.

In this story we follow Haley and West (Rachel's brother from book 3). After the aftermath of book 3, West has been falling down the rabbit hole. He's been getting into fight after fight, and his father's had enough of it. He's been taken out of private school and kicked out of the house. He's been living in his truck for at least a week now, and one day he sees this girl running away from a group of men.

He steps in, and tries to save her and gets his ass kicked. He gets knocked out and when he wakes up the guys are no longer around him and all he's left with is that girl.

From this point, things get complicated. It's a great read, and I definitely suggest checking this story out! You can get your own copy US:here or UK:here.

I always love these kind of posts! <3 I have read one Kasie West book (The Distance Between Us) and I got that vibe from it that you perfectly described here in your reviews for her other books, the light and fluffy romances 🙂 I can't wait to read more from her, especially By Your Side, this one sounds great 🙂
