Melina's Book Club Pt. 5

So I changed the name of the series, I can do that, right? I just didn't really like the long name, and I just wanted something that had a better ring to it! I still have loads of books to catch you up on, so let's just jump into it, because I know these posts are always pretty long.

Just like last time, you can click on the book images below if you’re only interested in learning about a specific book!

Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn - ★★★★ 1/2

I've been waiting to talk about this book to you for some time now. I read the whole book in about half a week, which is really quick considering how much time I actually have to reads now-a-days. Right from the first page, Gillian dragged us into the story. She's able to paint a picture so clearly, and it's really quite enjoyable.

The book is about a reporter, Camille, who has to leave Chicago and head to her hometown to report a serial killer. She hasn't been back in over 10 years, and she doesn't get the warm welcome you'd expect. This book is dark and twisted, but beautifully written. If you're squeamish about self-harm or drugs and alcohol, I would definitely skip this book. If those things don't affect you, then I will definitely recommend this book to you. There are so many twists and turns, and at one moment you thing you know who the killer is, but then the book has you questioning everything. Amazingly written, and if murder mysteries are your type of book, this should be at the top of your list! If you want to get your hands on a copy, you can US: here or UK: here!

His Banana by Penelope Bloom - ★★ 1/2

Now we're taking a huge turn and going into a raunchy romance novel. I read this book because I have three months of free Kindle Unlimited, and when I was in Dominican Republic, I only had brought one book with me.  I ended up downloading a whole bunch of books to read, and this was one of the books I ended up reading. It was alright. It passed the time, but I definitely wasn't wowed. The female character, Natasha, did crack me up. While I felt like the story was extremely light-hearted and a quick read, I didn't feel like the story was anything special? Have any of you guys read it before? Let me know your thoughts in the comments down below if you have! If you do want to give it a try, you can read it here (US) or here (UK).

Royals by Rachel Hawkins - ★★★

Now you guys may think I'm being harsh, but to me, there's a big difference between a two and a half stars and a three star. I feel like three stars or more I would recommend to people. I feel like anything below that is a waste of reading time!

This book was beyond cute. It was about a girl who's sister is marrying the prince of England. This ends up making her get in the spotlight, which she doesn't like at all. In order for the royal family to keep tabs on what is being said about her in the tabloids, they offer to take her in for the remainder of the summer. I really enjoyed her and the rest of the characters. This is a light-hearted novel I would recommend. I was totally shipping her with Miles the entire time, and loved seeing their bond progress.

I honestly wished the book gave me...more? I wanted to know what happens to them, and just...I didn't want it to end! Definitely a cute book, and if you want a nice fluff romantic novel, this is one you should read! You can read it here (US) or here (UK)

I read part of Gone Girl a few years back, and for some reason I couldn't get super into it. I think I'm going to give it a try again because Sharp Objects was that amazing. Let me know if you like them! Thanks so much for reading and commenting 🙂 x

His banana is definitely a book where it is all in the title (which I did find hilarious) but I agree it was a super fast quick read.
    Royals sounds SO good!
Gillian Flynn officially scarred me with Gone Girl. lol. <3

lmfaoo, it's funny because while it totally is a play on words, they are actually literally talking about a banana as in the fruit! I honestly didn't expect it, I really thought by the title it was in a sexual way. Did you enjoy it?
Honestly royals was super cute and really good! I really recommend it, and let me know if you do read it, because I would love your thoughts on it! Thank you for reading and commenting ! x

Oh, The Royals! I'm happy to hear you enjoyed that one overall, Melina - though it is a bit frustrating when you feel like something is missing to take it from "it's entertaining", to "it's sooooooooooo great" haha. I've heard a little bit about this book and it sounds like my kind of read, I'll really need to check it out at some point 🙂
    Happy reading love! xxxx
