Books I've Been Reading Pt. 3

Hey guys! Long time no talk. It's been normal for you guys, but I feel like I've been so behind on reading blog posts and answering back comments that it's been a while. Jet lag hit me like a bring last week. I've been going to bed super early, and then waking up ridiculously early too! I literally woke up at like 3 AM, then at 5 AM, and then at 7 AM!  It's kinda nice having all this extra time in the morning, but I definitely am not a fan of being a grandma everyday.

I promised you guys the last time I wrote a book post, that I wasn't going to bunch up as many books as the last time! It was such a long post, and most of you probably lost interest mid-way. This time around I'm coming to you with only 5 books! I have to give a huge thank you to Alison Sher for sending me a copy of her book to read! It was such a pleasure reading, and I'll definitely give you my full thoughts below. So let's get right into it.

We Hope This Reaches You in Time by Samantha King Holmes & r.h. Sin

I told you guys I was trying to get more into Poetry. I've been following r.h. Sin on social media for a while now, and when he mentioned that this book was for sale for $4.99, I decided to purchase it. I have to say, I have never read anything by Samantha King Homes, but I was so pleasantly surprised by her poems. They were so beautiful and really hit home. I have so many corner folded of hers. I now want to get her book of poetry called Born to Love, Cursed to Feel. The other half of the book was r.h. Sin, and I have to say that I wasn't a huge fan of his work in this one. I was rather disappointed. Out of the 50 or so poems, maybe one or two spoke to me. I'll definitely give him another try with one of his more popular books, but I have to say that his stuff was sub-par, specially when compared to Samantha's amazing work. If you want to check it out yourself, you totally can US: here or UK: here.

One of Us is Lying by Karen M. McManus

This might be the best book out of the bunch. It had suspense, romance, & murder! What more could you want?! I was super pleased by this book. My friend Christina lent it to me (thanks for that!), and I am beyond grateful that she did. The book follows around 4 kids from different cliques. One day they all end up in detention together, with another boy named Simon who was an outcast who wrote a gossip blog about everyone in their school, and Simon ends up dead. At first they shrug his death off as an accident, but eventually they find out that he was murdered. The suspects? The 4 other kids who were in the room with him when he died.

This book has loads of twists and turns, and you'll love every single moment of it. All the points of view are extremely enjoyable to read, and you'll eventually love every character.  Karen did an amazing job painting this story, and I can't wait for her next novel. If you get any of the books you mentioned today, you should get this one! You can purchase it US: here or UK: here.

Rules of Summer by Joanna Philbin

Now this book was another book I enjoyed. It was also lent to me by Christina. It's a super light read, and I read it all in one sitting. It's about this girl, Rory, who decided to spend the summer in the Hamptons helping her Aunt, who is a housekeeper, maintain the Rule's household. While there she meets the daughter of the household, Isabel, and Connor.

You follow Isabel & Rory's point of view throughout the story. While I was a bit indifferent towards Rory, I was a huge fan of Isabel. It was a cute story, and if you don't have much else to read, I would recommend it. While there is a sequel to the book, I will definitely not be reading it, because my friend told me it was terrible, so I did research and boy was it a terrible read.

If you  decide to read this, read it as a standalone! As much as you want to know what happens next, I promise you it will save you loads of grief if you don't read the sequel! If you want to get this book you can get it US: here or UK: here!

The Millennial's Guide to Changing the World: A New Generation’s Handbook to Being Yourself and Living with Purpose* by Alison Lea Sher

Untitled

If you guys have been following me for a while, you'll know that I am a lover of self-help books. I find them extremely motivating, and just really boost my overall morale. I got sent this book, and I was so excited to read it. It's written in such a easy conversational way, kind of like You are a Badass, which you all know that I really enjoyed. She talks about how to feel more comfortable with yourself, which I love. No matter how many books I read about embracing yourself, I always need that reminder. Sometimes when things are written differently, they just click, you know? It was pretty quick read, in terms of pages, but it did take me a little over a week to read, because of the fact that I like to absorb what I'm reading, specially when it comes to self-help books.

If you need a boost in your life, and just want to re-motivate yourself, I really recommend this book! If you want her book, you can get it here! You can also find out more information about her on her page Millennials Incorporated.

Isla and the Happily Ever After by Stephanie Perkins

As you guys all know by now, but I am a huge fan of Stephanie Perkins. I loved Anna and the French kiss loads. I didn't know how any of her novels were going to stand up to it, specially because I hated Lola's story (you can read more about that here). Isla is the main character in this novel that also went to SOAP, and you actually briefly saw her in Anna's story. The story follows her and Josh. I absolutely loved her plot, and actually felt like I related to her even more than Anna! I don't want to give anything away, but it was so amazing (sorry I didn't lend it to you Christina! I'll give it to you as soon as you get back from your trip!), and you seriously have to read this one too! If you want to get a copy of this, which you should, you can get it US: here or UK: here!

I am reading One of Us is Lying at the moment - I wasn't sure if I actually wanted to finish it, but your thoughts have convinced me otherwise. I'll keep with it!

I just finished reading a book called The Nowhere Girls which I absolutely loved - I think you would most probably like it too.

Why didn't you potentially want to finish it? I thought it was really good, but it's fine if you feel differently about it! I hope you do enjoy it once you finish it.

Thanks for the recommendation! I'm definitely going to add it to my list! Thanks for reading and commenting 🙂 x

Oh I'm so glad you loved One of Us Is Lying, I've heard great things about this book and I haven't read a suspenseful book like that in a little while, maybe I'll have to try it out at some point 😀 Rules of Summer also sounds like a fun, summery read - I'll keep in mind maybe to stay away from that sequel, if I ever want to give it a try haha 🙂
I am so, so happy you loved Isla - I related to her so, so much as well and it was my favorite book of the series, for sure 🙂
I don't know if you're looking for a fun, summer-y read, I'd recommend Always Never Yours, it was such a great book with an incredible main character you could love. I also recently finished A Quiet Kind of Thunder and this book made me smile, it was SO ADORABLE 😀
    happy reading, Melina! 😀

Thanks for the recommendations. Almost anything you recommend, I end up reading, so they have both been added to my wish list. Thanks for the recommendation!
Ps: I literally got good reads now, and I'm obsessed, and since I added you as a friend I can now see what you're reading if I ever need/want more books to add onto my wish list 🙂
