melina's book club | #15

It's that time of the month again! I haven't gotten much reading done in the last month, so when you see what I'm currently reading, you'll see that haven't made much progress. But let's get right into my book club post!

currently reading:

the similars by rebecca hanover book cover  straight up love by lexi ryan book cover  crazy rich asians by kevin kwan book cover  the da vinci code by dan brown book cover  reckless an it girl novel by cecily von ziegesar book cover

Instead of finishing up some of the books that I already started reading, I ended up picking up the It Girl series, and got to the 3rd one! They're as good as I remember them being. Super quick reads, that reminds me a lot of the Gossip Girl televisions series (rich kids and their drama). It's definitely because of the fact that they're written by the same author.

what i’m going to review today:

to all the boys i've loved before by jenny han book cover     ps i still love you by jenny han book cover (to all the boys i've loved #2)     things i'd rather do than die by christine hurley deriso book cover

to all the boys i've loved before by Jenny Han -★★★

Probably like everyone else, I read this book because the Netflix movie had come out. I wanted to read the book before the movie had come out, and unfortunately that didn't end up happening.

I actually enjoyed the movie, so I had high hopes for the book. After reading the book, I feel like the movie did a great job adapting from the book! They really kept to the plot of the book very well.

Now for those of you who didn't watch the movie or read the book, the book is a cute fluff high school romance.

Laura Jean has had many crushes while growing up, and like most of us, has never told them about it. What she did do was write a letter to each of them, one which she never expected to see the light of day.

Somehow each of her letters were sealed, mailed, and delivered, which forces her to confront each of her crushes one at a time.

It's definitely a cute story, I probably would have enjoyed it more if I had been younger, but I still enjoyed it nonetheless. Laura Jean is a really cute character, with an amazing wholesome family, and great side characters. I really enjoyed it, and even binge-read the second one soon afterwards. I'm excited to see the second movie in 2020!

P.S. I still love you by Jenny Han - ★★★

If you read my review for "To All the Boys I've Love" you would know that I read these books within days of each other.

This one continues the story of Laura Jean immediately where the first book left off. I kind of liked that, because in some books when you read the sequel, there's some sort of time jump. Not for this one.

I don't want to give away too much, specially if you didn't read the first one, but there's a love triangle. I liked the second one as much as I liked the first one.

I still haven't had the chance to finish the third one. I get so attached to characters, that I tend to read the first few books of a series so quickly, and when I get closer to the end, I slow down significantly. I'll be picking up the third book soon, and let you know my thoughts as soon as I do!

Things I'd Rather do Than Die by Christine Hurley Dersio -★★★

While I rated this book similarly to the other two, I would say that this might have been my favorite of the three. Jade and Ethan are two high school students that could not be more different. From the friend groups they surround themselves with, to their extra curricular activities, and even their beliefs.

After a series of strange events, they find themselves locked inside of a room inside of a gym. They spend hours talking about anything and everything, and form a bond that isn't quite understood by either of them. Of course, eventually someone finds them and lets them out.

Things go back to normal, back to their own lives, even though neither of them can't shake the bond they formed with each other. You definitely have to read the book to see how it ends.

I liked the conversations they had while they were locked in the room together. They're so different from each other, that I really enjoyed reading them talk about their religious beliefs among other things. It was definitely a cute read, and if you need another quick YAL book to check out, this is one I definitely recommend checking out!

Too bad you didn't enjoy To All the Boys more. It's one of our fave series. Definitely fluffy, but a fun book!
