You never realize...

You never realize how fragile life is. You could be living your life, looking forward to the future, making plans. Living each day working, coming home, going out with friends, etc. Then something happens to remind you that the following day is never guaranteed.

Last week, my father and brother got into a car accident. A semi-trailer hit them. Luckily, they're both okay. It's honestly a miracle. The circumstances seemed to align in a way that everything worked out the way it did.

A car cut off the trailer, so they slammed their brakes. They pressed their brakes so hard, that the fuel tank that they were carrying, slid. It ended up t-boning my dad's Jeep Wrangler. The car is totally wrecked, and somehow, my brother and dad came out of this almost completely unscathed.

I was on my way home from work, when I got the call. Obviously, the moment I got the phone call from my mom, I didn't realize everything was going to be okay. It was a struggle to keep things under control. I felt my body start to shake, but knew that now wasn't the time to break down. It was time to step up to the plate, and stay calm. I picked my mom up, and drove us to the hospital. I didn't realize how anxious I was feeling until I saw the both of them in the emergency room. In that moment, I felt nothing but relief.

Had the fuel tank the semi-trailer was carrying was full things could have ended differently. Or if my dad didn't drive such a sturdy and high vehicle, things could have been much more serious. My head's been thinking of all the ways this could have ended badly, and yet, we are one of the lucky ones.

My dad and brother were able to go home after hours of being in the emergency room. They were taken to get a few tests done. After making sure that there were no underlying issues, we were sent home.

It's been days since the accident, and I still feel on edge.

Besides feeling on edge, I mainly feel beyond grateful. I feel a like I'm a little in shock. Other than having to get a new car, my family is almost completely fine. They were part of this crazy freak accident, and lived to tell the tale.

It makes you think. It makes time feel that more precious. You honestly never know what could happen. Here was my reminder to live my life to the fullest, and if you're reading this, then it's yours too.

Thank goodness your father & brother are ok!!! It's unnerving to receive a call like that. We all need to take the time to treasure the people around us, life is fragile and fleeting. I'm glad everything was alright.
