Summer Favorites | 2020

I'm actually super excited to write one of these. It's been a while since I've shared with you all my summer favorites! Since Fall officially started this week, I'm pretty proud of myself for not being late this time! So let's get right into it.

  • Too Faced Chocolate Bar Palette

So this is something I've owned for years. I would say that this was probably my second high end makeup palette that I've ever owned, and I was obsessed. I actually hit pan in 3 of the shades, and then moved on to some other palettes that I owned. Over the summer, I did a lot of "shopping my stash". I went through all the palettes I own, and ended up pulling this one! I wasn't sure if I was going to love it as much, since palettes have come a long way.

Lo and behold, it's still an amazing palette! It might not swatch well, but it looks stunning on the eyes. I think this palette and the semi-sweet one from them are honestly some of the best palettes if you're a neutral's gal. It looks like they don't sell it at Sephora or the Too Faced website, but I found it on the Macy's website if you're interested!

  • Maybelline Dream Fresh BB Cream - Light Medium 110

I bought this about 6 months before COVID, when I was really into full coverage makeup. During the quarantine, this shifted a bit. I was into having a light to medium coverage foundation and a full coverage concealer!

I had bought the Colourpop Pretty Fresh Tinted Moisturizer, but there were a few things I didn't like about the formula. Firstly, when I put it on it sometimes made me feel extremely oily. Then weirdly, it would make my skin super dry? It was odd only because it was supposed to be extremely hydrating?

I remembered I had this in my makeup drawers, and pulled it out, where I completely fell in love. I would say it's a light coverage. It completely evens out my redness and just makes it look like my skin, but better.

I also like that it has a mineral SPF (I'm not a fan of chemical sunscreens, they always break me out!). I've been using this all Summer, and I actually just ran out of this. I'm definitely going to purchase a new one ASAP! I definitely recommend checking out this product. Here are some places I found you can buy it at (Amazon | Ulta | Maybelline)

  • Honest Beauty Creme Cheek Blush - Coral Peach

You know I'm a huge fan of cream blushes, they just look so good on my dry skin! While I didn't need anymore blushes, during the quarantine I purchased this blush. This may be one of my favorite cream blushes ever!

They have a few shades, but I decided to get coral peach. It looks stunning on my skin tone. I think all the shades are honestly lovely. This blush lasts a long time on my cheeks, and while I've found a lot of high end cream blushes I really liked (Nudestix/Too Faced Peach Melts), this is the first drugstore cream blush that I'm completely obsessed by! I'm warning you now, a little goes a long way with this product. You don't know how many times I've over-blushed my cheeks! Here are some places I found you can buy it at (Amazon | Ulta | Honest Beauty | Target)

  • Colourpop Lip Tint - City of Stars

Cleia, has been raving about these products, for about a year now, and over the winter (before quarantine), I took the plunge and got one! I'm so glad I did. This formula is gorgeous. It feels like a hydrating lip balm, but looks like a cream lipstick on. Then it smells like guava, which reminds me of a lip gloss that Maybelline used to have when I was in middle school (I looked it up! It was the Shinesational Lip Gloss in Glamourous Guava). They have these in a whole bunch of shades, and after grabbing my first one, I wanna collect them all (not really, but really). Here are two places I found where you can buy it at (Colourpop | Ulta)

  • Curology Serum

I won't speak about this in too much detail, since I wrote a whole blog post about my experience and thoughts on Curology, so definitely give it a read!

  • Bioderma Hydrabio H2O Micellar Water

According to the Curology guides, they recommended I use this brand's micellar water in order to clean my face. It's meant to hydrate the skin, which was kinda cool. I've been using the Garnier Micellar water for years.

The Bioderma is a little bit more expensive than the Garnier one. I like how quick it cleans my skin, and I do like the fact that my skin feels moisturized after using this. I know that my skin's been loving this! As of right now, I'm not sure if I'm going to continue to buy this one or go back to the Garnier one, but I do really like this one! Here are some websites you can find the product (Amazon | Bioderma | Dermstore |Beautylish)

  • Bare Minerals Pureness Gel Cleanser

I got this sent to me to test out, and I immediately liked the fact that it didn't have many ingredients. They had sent me a moisturizer and a cleanser. I usually don't get too excited over cleansers, because most of them "over clean" my face? Since I have dry skin, I sometimes have trouble finding products that clean, but doesn't strip the oils from my skin.

I have to say that this product is amazing. It says that it's a gel, but it really comes out as this nice creamy cleanser. It smells like cucumber and spa, and makes my skin feel clean, but not dry. Here are some places you can find the cleanser (Amazon | Ulta | Bare Minerals)

summer favorites music melina elisa blog spotify

It's kinda cool to compare my seasonal playlists. Sometimes I think I listen to the same thing. While some songs consistently stay on my playlists, I definitely remove and add new songs all the time as well. As always, I hope you give it a listen, and find some cool new music to fall in love with! If you are interested in getting a sneak peak at my ever-changing fall playlist, you can click here.

  • Once Upon a Time - Seasons 1 & 2

So this is a show that has been on my Netflix list for... God knows how long. Since I had so much free time during the pandemic, I decided finally give this show a proper chance. I watched the first episode and I was hooked.

One thing I will say, the seasons are long. They're about 22 episodes each season, so it's taken me quite a bit to get to where I'm at. I'm currently on the season finale of season 2 as I'm writing this, so I'll probably be mid-season 3 by the time you're reading this.

The show kind of reminds me of the "Into the Woods" play. It has to do with fairytale characters that are all connected one way or another, and are taken from their world and brought to a town in the US. It's really good! It honestly has everything you would want in a show. Romance, action, drama, and well-developed characters.

I have to say my favorite characters are the villains, specifically Rumpelstiltskin! The guy who plays him is such a great actor, and he's just such a multi-dimensional character.

Sadly, they got rid of Once Upon a Time on Netflix, but if you have a Disney+ account, you can watch the whole show on there! If you're looking for a new show to watch and have a Disney+ (or know someone who does), I definitely recommend giving it a watch!

  • Love Island US - Season 2

Love Island started at the very end of the summer in the US. I'm obsessed with the UK verision of Love Island (I even like the Australian one). I was extremely excited when I heard that Love Island is getting an American version. All I will say, is that the first season was a huge disappointment.

It was lacking in all the ways the other versions weren't. It was honestly kind of terrible. I didn't know what to expect when I heard that we were getting renewed for another season. I'm pleased to announce that the second season is super good. It's everything Love Island is supposed to be. If you're a fan of the UK or Australian version of Love Island, then you should definitely catch up on this season!

  • Lucifer - Final Season

I know for a fact I've mentioned Lucifer on my blog multiple times (here's proof, 1,2,3), and the final season came out this year over the Summer! Me and my sister were putting it off, cause we knew it was going to be the final one. One day, we decided to "slowly" start watching it. Before we knew it, there were only two episodes left!

We honestly still haven't watched the last two episodes left, but the last season was really good! I was worried that it was going to be rushed or unfinished, but I felt that the season was progressing naturally. If you haven't watched the show, it's really good! It's super funny, but at the same time has drama, romance, action, and also has the whole crime-solving element to it.

I honestly love the guy who plays Lucifer, he embodies the character so well. Definitely give it a watch. Netflix bought the rights to the show, so you can watch the whole thing on Netflix!

  • Indian Matchmaker

This show was unexpected really good. I'm a sucker for reality television, but this was non-trashy reality tv? In Indian culture, arranged marriages are normal! While there are people who get married from "love marriages", it's still accepted to get arranged marriages.

This show takes a dive into people who are Indian and Indian-Americans who want to get arranged marriages! It's really interested to see the modern version of how it works now. If you're looking for something new to watch on Netflix, give this show a try!

  • Acai Bowls - Playa Bowls

During Quarantine, I was craving Acai bowls hardcore. They're just so refreshing and delicious! This summer, I took full advantage and went to Playa Bowls whenever I had the time and the craving! My favorite is the Pura Vida. It's so good, and if you have never had an Acai Bowl and you're really into fruit and freshness, go and get one!

  • Reusable Cotton Rounds

I actually wrote a whole blog post about trying to be eco-friendly, and one change that I made was getting reusable bamboo rounds instead of getting the single-use ones! We all have to do our part to save the earth, and the little changes we make do add up! I've been using these cotton rounds for almost a whole year now, and they're still holding strong.

I bought two packs, which I find is more than enough for about half a month. Then I pop them in the wash whenever I'm running low of clean ones! I have found that they have gotten softer as I continue to wash them. None of them have come apart. They are definitely not as white they were, but that honestly doesn't bother me.

If you use single-use cotton rounds, I definitely recommend making the change and getting yourself some reusable bamboo rounds!

  • Samsung Galaxy Buds

I have always found the Apple headphones to be extremely uncomfortable. Even though I wanted to buy myself a pair of wireless headphones, I couldn't justify buying the apples ones. Everyone was telling me that my ears would get used to them, and I would love them once I had them.

I didn't want to take that chance, and did some research for some other wireless headphones. My mom & dad (who are both Samsung people) got a pair of these Samsung Galaxy Buds. First off, they were so comfortable. The sound quality was so good, and they were much less expensive than the original Airpods!

After doing research for compatibility between my Iphone and the Galaxy Buds, I took the plunge and bought them. I am extremely happy with my purchase. The battery lasts extremely long, they connect automatically to my phone, and they feel super comfortable with my ears. They have a pro-version, which has a few more features, but for what I use the headphones for, I'm obsessed!

  • The Color Mustard

This is a weird favorites to talk about, but if you've noticed a pattern, you would find that I've added a lot of mustard to my life. It's slowly but surely become my favorite color! I'm not exactly sure when it happened, but when I realized my Iphone case, my switch, and my nails were all mustard, I knew.

I just think the color is so pretty, and really brightens my mood!

  • Paper Mario Origami King

After months of playing Animal Crossing, my sister's boyfriend got me the new Paper Mario game for my Birthday! The plot is super cute, and the graphics are really good. While I'm not the biggest fan of the new fighting style, it's still a really good game. I definitely recommend it!

I love that your favourites aren't necessarily all brand "new" things, it's refreshing! The chocolate bar palettes are still so good. I never had the original but the chocolate bon bons is still in my weekly rotation.
Yaaaas you got one of those lip tints! I'm so glad you love them! I haven't tried that shade specifically but I want them all, the formula is so comfortable.
I haven't tried bareminerals' skincare line before, the cleanser sounds amazing! I love that it has a cucumber scent.
    Take care! x

I just find in unrealistic to constantly one have favorites full of new products, especially since I am constantly trying to rotate through my collection! I think it's good to normalize the idea of not only having to get the newest products.
I'm honestly so obsessed, I can't believe I didn't listen to you sooner! They are just are good as you described them to be. They completely exceeded my expectations. Thanks so much for recommending such a great product, and for reading and commenting 🙂 x

I completely agree! That's a great message 🙂 I don't really watch favourites anymore because I wonder how something can really be a favourite when it's only been new for two weeks.

Aww, I'm just glad you liked them, now I've got to try some of your favourites!

Such great summer favorites! I loved Once Upon a Time such a good show. I didn't even realize it was on Netflix. Happy news, Lucifer actually has a SIXTH season coming out! They also extended the fifth season so eight more episodes are coming out sometime, they had to postpone filming because of cover. I am so happy we get more Lucifer! 🙂 <3
