Happy Fridaze! Last weekend was my birthday weekend, so I had a super busy weekend! Then I had a much quieter week. Grab something to drink, and let's chat (I'm currently drinking a regular cup of coffee, with a little bit of milk, cinnamon, and chocolate powder)!

Birthday weekend

My birthday was last Sunday (I do have a birthday post in the works, just a bit late with it). Since my birthday was on a Sunday, I decided to do my main birthday celebration on Saturday.

Friday was a pretty low-key night for me. I opened up a bottle of wine, read a bit, and watched some tv! There was a random late night dance party (the party was me & Luca). I ate some leftovers, and had a great night in.

On Saturday, J planned some fun stuff for us to do in the city! We took an early afternoon train, and headed to the Museum of Natural History. While I've been to the one in D.C. before, I have never gone inside the one in NYC. He's been there a few times, and recommended we check out the Planetarium! They currently don't look at the actual stars, and just do a short informational video, so I wouldn't recommend it (not worth the money in my opinion!). If you're in the area, I know the Liberty Science Center does star shows (located in Jersey City, NJ)!

After the museum, we went to a Japanese in the Upper West Side, Flame. The place was cute, and the food was about average moderate NYC prices! We got some duck buns, some pork ribs, sushi, and a hibachi dinner! It was a lot of food, but we hadn't eaten anything all day. While I wasn't a huge fan of the sushi, the seabass hibachi dinner and everything else was excellent! We were seated right away, and the service was really good too. Overall, a nice experience (and thank god J didn't tell them it was my birthday).

Afterwards, we went to The Strand! They had a location right next to the restaurant, so it was super convenient. And I couldn't go in to the city for my birthday and not buy a book.

Finally, I've been wanting to check out the Harry Potter store, so we made our way to the Flatiron district, and saw the store! The store itself was beautiful, and really thoughtfully made. It's almost like they took all of Harry Potter world in Universal Studios, and put it into one store. There is a butterbeer bar that looks gorgeous, and overall, if you're a fan of Harry Potter, I recommend checking out! I did not pay extra for the experience, though, so I'm just talking about the store itself. I ended up not getting anything, because the line was so long. I also know they sell official Harry Potter merch on the Universal website.

Then, on Sunday I went to brunch with my siblings, J, and my sister's boyfriend. There wasn't a long wait time, the place was cute, and food was good! It's BYOB, so we brought some bottles of Prosecco and made mimosas! The place was called Sorriso, and I highly recommend it.

Amanda

Then on Tuesday, my friend Amanda came over! She saw the apartment for the first time, and then we took Luca to the dog park. He had a great time, and then we came back to the apartment and ordered some pizza! We've been trying new pizza places around the area, and that one ended up being our favorite so far, which was super exciting.

Overall, it was really exciting to catch up and just chat. A lot of the times I see her it's within our friend group, so it was nice to catch up just the two of us. She's looking at apartments close to me, so hopefully she'll live even closer than she does now!

Canada Forest Fires

There was a huge forest fire in Canada, and because of that the air quality was terrible here for the past few days! All that smoke and soot has been making it's way down the northeast coast. Outside had an orange hue for all of Wednesday. We were recommended to spend limited time outdoors during that time, and schools ended up closing.

We don't really deal with forest fires too regularly where I live, so it was a new experience for me. It was a little scary! My throat has been scratchy, and my eyes have been really dry these past few days. Today, everything is a lot better though! The air quality warning has gone away, and it looks normal outside.

Aw happy birthday for last Sunday! (Or last, last Sunday, by now!) It sounds like you had a lovely time celebrating. And a wine, book and TV night in sounds dreamy.

Thank you so much! I've been appreciating quieter birthdays with just those closest to me. It's nice not to have 25 people or so get together, and have all the attention on me aha.

Happy belated birthday! It sounds like you had a wonderful weekend celebrating and spending time with your loved ones.

I saw some coverage of the yellow haze from the Canada forrest fires on television, it looked scary! I'm glad it's all better now. ♥

Thank you so much. It was really scary! I can't imagine what it's like for people who live in California who struggle with wildfires all the time. Thanks for reading and commenting 🙂 xx
