Fridaze 027

I thought this week was going to a lot slower, and yet, here we are and it's Friday again. I was supposed to have a lot more plans that were scheduled into my week, and somehow things either got canceled or didn't end up panning out. Which to be honest, after the super hectic and busy weekends I've had back to back, I'm kind of happy to have a slower week.

Grab a cup of coffee or tea and let's chat about it!

Jamie's Birthday

Last Friday night, me & J went to Thatcher McGhees for Jamie's birthday. It was the first time J was meeting Jamie and her fiancé Joe. Every time J meets another close friend of mine, it's both exciting and nerve wrecking. Two of my favorite people are meeting each other for the first time, and all I want is for them to get along and like each other!

In the end, the music was too loud, Jamie chatted with other people in our group, and at one point, she was stuck babysitting her step-mom. It's okay, with the little bit they both did chat, they liked each other's vibe. I'm definitely excited for the next time we can all hang out together.

Arcadia Earth with Erika

The following day, I went to NYC with Erika! I had gotten us tickets to go to Arcadia Earth for her birthday. I honestly didn't really know what to expect other than the fact that it was a popular exhibit in NY. It was an exhibit that talked about the environment, and changes you can make in your day to day life to be a bit more eco-friendly! It had some really cool art created by local New Yorkers, and it worked with a AR app, which was something I've never experienced before (other than when I was playing Pokemon Go).

Afterwards we went to this Thai, Vietnamese, and Malaysian fusion restaurant. The food was super good, and I tried a whole bunch of stuff I have never tried before. It's always a good time when I hang out with Erika, so I had a good time.

J's Best Friend's Birthday Party

Later that night, J's best friend, Chris, had a birthday party in his house. I was extremely nervous. While I had briefly met some of these people at the Christmas Party, it's been months since I've seen them. Not only that, but I had never officially met Chris.

These are people that are super important to J, and so all I wanted was to make a good first (second in some cases) impression. Initially, I didn't know if I made the right decision in going. I felt like J was "babysitting me", and not genuinely enjoying himself.

It took me a little while to shake off some of the anxiety, but eventually I got more comfortable, and can honestly say, I had a really good time.

I feel like some of his friends really went out of their way to chat and get to know me. Whether they knew it or not, they were all really welcoming and really helped me feel a lot better about being there. Overall, it was a successful night, and I felt so flattered when one person invited me to a party at their house next month!

J Meets my Parents

The final noteworthy thing that happened this past weekend is the fact that J met my parents. While I was originally trying to make it so they all meet in some sort of group setting, my parents pushed it a little bit and so I planned a lunch for them to meet each other.

It was...awkward to say the least. My parents aren't so chatty naturally, and neither is J (at least when he's not comfortable), so it was a bit quiet. I mean, it's honestly expected because they're both strangers.

I think it went, uh, neutrally? It didn't go particularly well or badly. My dad gave this super embarrassing speech (the 'you better not hurt my daughter or else' kind.). It's not necessarily that he gave the speech, but he barely said a single word throughout the entire lunch, and when he does speak, this is what he says.

Couldn't he have waited til at least...the third time they met?

Well, at least that's out of the way (heavy sigh in relief)!

Saw some apartments

The final noteworthy thing is the fact that I went and saw two apartments. They were in a good area, but kinda at the top of my budget. Online it sounded good, so I signed up for a tour this week. I brought my mom along, so she can keep me company.

When I saw them, I was...a little underwhelmed. It was so much money for such a small space. Not only that, but there were all these added fees they I had to pay, which in realty, let the one apartment I did like, out of range.

I came back from that viewing feeling really down. I was frustrated because renting is so expensive at the moment, and I just felt a little helpless about finding a place I was going to fall in love with.

After having a lil' cry, I feel hopeful again. So I went back to the drawing board and signed up to tour a few apartments in my price range in other areas I wasn't really looking in originally. Fingers crossed one of those are the one!

Shows/Movies I’ve Watched:

  • Jujutsu Kaisen Season 1 episodes 1-11 [HBO Max]
  • Scrubs Season 1 episodes 7-9 [Amazon Video]

Books I’ve Been Reading:

Even though it seems like I did a lot this past week, at the same time, I had a lot of time to relax, which I really liked. Even though I like going out and doing stuff, I also really appreciate down time. This weekend I'm going to do absolutely nothing, but hang out with J and recharge. I'm honestly looking forward to it so much, that it's a bit embarrassing. Who gets excited for staying home and doing nothing? I guess me.

But enough about me, tell me how you are all doing? How's your Spring going so far? We're starting to get some beautiful weather in the northeast, which I'm so happy about. As always, thank you for reading. Sending you all love, strength, and positive vibes xx

Fingers crossed with your apartment hunting! I laughed when I read about J meeting your parents because I'm really awkward and feel that whenever I meet new friends or family for the first time, I'm just super quiet - it leads to these silent moments. It's such a relief though when you get over the first parent introduction.

I have to go to NY one day! xx

No such luck with the apartment hunting I'm afraid, rent is just so ridiculously expensive! NJ is always pretty expensive to begin with, but it's gotten even more in the past year or so.
Omg, it was so awkward! but they've met twice now, and this second time was much much better. And you definitely do, and if you do, you have to let me know 🙂 x
