Spooky TV Shows you should check out for Halloween in 2020!

I was originally planning on making a round up of all the Halloween content I've done over the years. Lo and behold, when I found out that I've only written one Halloween blog post in almost 4 years! How could this be? Halloween is definitely my favorite holiday of the year (closely followed by Christmas). This year I'm going to rectify it and write a few Halloween posts. Today I'm going to talk about some creepy/spooky tv shows to get you in the Halloween mood!

If you're interested, a few years back I wrote a blog post about my favorite movies for Halloween! You're more than welcome to check it out, but let's get into the actual post.

The Sinner

This show follows Detective Ambrose, where each season is focused on one case he's currently taking on. The storytelling that happens throughout the first two seasons are chilling (they have 3 seasons currently out, but only 2 on Netflix). They're extremely well thought out, and just have this very creepy feel to them.

I think it's because the show is very dark. It has a very heavy feel to it, if that makes sense. The seasons aren't overly long, about 12 episodes, but if you haven't watched this show yet, I highly recommend it. The people who created the show did an amazing job, and the actor who is Detective Ambrose is also excellent.

American Horror Story

This show's a little difficult to give a synopsis for, only because each season is so different from one another. I would say that each episode focuses on a different topic. The only thing they have in common is that they're all weird/creepy/scary.

Now, I had a lot of qualms about adding this to my list. I feel like the first few seasons were very good. All were extremely creepy, and definitely had that overall fright factor. I feel like as the seasons continued, they were less thought out? I would like how the seasons would start, but then towards the middle of the seasons they would kind of lose their way. I'm not sure if I'm the only person who feels that way.

I will say that I recommend Season 1 (Murder House), Season 3 (Coven), Season 4 (Freak Show), Season 5 (Hotel), & Season 6 (Roanoke).

Each season focuses on a different topic/theme, and while they all start off interesting, they aren't all well-developed. I will say that they have had a great set of actors for every season that I've watched. They definitely make the show, in my opinion.

The Haunting on Hill House

Now, this show is another really good one. I feel like they put so much thought into the way that they were going to present the story. From the first episode they are leaving little bread crumbs, and you wouldn't notice it unless you re-watched the show!

The story is about a couple who flips houses. They bought this house, and over the summer live in the house with their children while they renovate the house. While renovating, they didn't realize how long the repairs were going to take, and the longer they stay, the more odd paranormal things start occurring. This ends up resulting in a tragic loss, and the family running and leaving the house.

The show takes place between two timelines. The past, where the family was renovating the home and what they encountered, and 26 years later. In the present, tragedy strikes again which reunites the family, and makes them confront what happened to them while they were at Hill House.

I can honestly say that I don't have a single bad thing to say about this show. The acting is phenomenal, and the plot is excellent! If you haven't watched it yet, you definitely should.

Hannibal

I actually watched this show at the end of last year. I didn't really understand how this show compared to the movie universe. Once I let go of what I knew about Hannibal Lecter, I was able to fully enjoy the show.

Right off the bat, you can say that every single actor on the show is really good (which is always the sign of a good show).

The show starts when a Behavioral Scientist, Will Graham, gets recruited by an FBI profiler to help investigate a serial killer. When Will starts to feel the pressure of the job, the FBI decides that he should be supervised by Dr. Hannibal Lecter, who is actually a cannibalistic serial killer himself.

The show is crazy. While the show got canceled, so it never really ended, they're currently in the works to rebooting it! I highly recommend this show as well.

Mindhunter

I have definitely talked about this show before, somewhere on here. Not only this show completely well done, with good actors and storytelling, but it's so interesting!

The show follows 3 main characters, two FBI agents and one behavior scientists. It's about the true story on how criminal profiling was born. These 3 people interviewed serial killers in hopes of learning something about the, and help them solve other cases in the future.

I can't really say too much without spoiling anything, but the actor who plays Edmund Kemper is amazing. He literally sucked me in. I hung onto every word he said. I looked forward to every scene he was in.

Even though the actor who payed Edmund Kemper is hands down my favorite, ever actor in the show does a great job. If you're into criminal profiling at all, or the psychology of people and serial killers, this is the show for you.

Criminal Minds

Now speaking of criminal profiling, this show is solely based on that. It follows a team of criminal profilers, behavior scientists, and FBI agents who work on taking down serial killers around the United States.

For the most part they solve the crime in one episode. Occasionally, it'll take them a few episodes. While this show is a lot more...casual, it's still really good. What I mean by casual, is that for the most part you can watch an episode or two, then skip a few episodes, and jump back on without missing out on much.

I used to be obsessed with this show when I was in high school, and binged through the episodes every night before bed. I really like the chemistry between the team, and it definitely would send chills down my spine at times. If you're into crime solving shows, then this is a cool take on it.

The Walking Dead

Now I used to be obsessed with this show. There was a time where I was so overwhelmed with all the tv shows I was watching, that I ended up putting this show on the backburner. I know for a fact that I'll re-watch the show and catch up eventually, but I haven't had the chance to do so yet!

This show takes place in an end-of-the-world scenario where a airborne disease infects dead bodies. Instead of people dying, they would turn into zombies. The show follows Rick Grimes as he recruits a team, who later on becomes his second family. Throughout the show you see how they continue to survive and attempt to thrive.

While you don't love every single character that you come across throughout the show, I will say that they are talented actors. Some you love, and are constantly worried that they're going to die. Then there are others that you love to hate, are waiting to see what their next move is going to be.

While I know for a fact that this show is not for everyone, I think they did an amazing job with this show. The way they continue to come up with creative storylines is definitely applaudable.

Black Mirror

This show is honestly scary. Maybe because they examine different "potential realities"? Each episode is standalone, and focuses on a different topic. They usually are about different ways that technology can and will ruin our lives if we're not careful. Most of them are really dark. There are a few of them that are more on the lighthearted side.

While I feel like not every episode is thought provoking, the majority of the episodes are really good. I think they're especially scary because some of these plotlines could become our reality! If you haven't given this show a watch, you can watch the whole series on Netflix!

So those are some of the tv shows I recommend to get you in the spirit of Halloween! What spooky tv shows do you recommend? Let me know in the comments down below. I hope you're all having a wonderful day/night. Sending you love, strength, and positivity xx

Halloween isn't my favourite holiday, as I hate horror films and anything scary and gory. I'm a proper wimp haha! Even though I love The Walking Dead game, so I have been really tempted to watch the TV show to give it a go. I may have to bite the bullet and give it a go. This is a great post xx

I love Halloween - it's great fun, isn't it! Unfortunately this year it's going to be a stay-at-home Halloween due to Covid, so these TV show recommendations are just what I needed for a Halloween night in! I definitely fancy checking out The Haunting of Hill House and Mindhunter... and I've already got a supply of Halloween sweets ready to eat while I'm watching them too!
