More Halloween Movies you HAVE to watch !

I've been having a lot of fun writing up this Halloween Content. I'm still in shock that in the 3 1/2 years of having a blog, I've only written one Halloween post, not counting the ones I wrote this year. The first Halloween post I wrote was actually about Halloween Movies! Today I'm going to talk about some more Halloween movies I think you should check out.

Halloweentown

halloweentown disney halloween movies

I thought I would start this post with a light-hearted throwback. I loved both Halloweentown movies, but the first one is definitely much more nostalgic to me.

Marnie and her siblings get a huge shock when she follows her grandmother into Halloweentown, and figures out they come from a family of witches. The town is full of supernatural creatures. This is the only place they can walk around and live a normal life.

Not only does Marnie find out that she's a witch, but she also finds out that her family is battling evil, and stopping it from taking over the world.

Definitely a cute watch, and they have it on Disney+!

The Grudge

This is a classic. It's a scary movie that was really popular when I was in middle school.

The movie follows a detective who is following a case that her new partner handled in the past. It's about a house that's haunted, and a curse that anyone who enters the house gets.

It's been a little while since I've watched this, but I still remember how chilling this movie was. There's this sound that happens throughout the movie, and to this day it creeps me out a bit!

I even heard they're coming out with a reboot! I hope it's just as good as the first one.

Shutter

While I've watched a lot of scary movies, I think it's really hard to find ones that are really good. It has to make sense. It can't just be all blood and jump scares, with very little plot.

When I was thinking about movies I remember liking, this is one that cross my mind.

After hitting a woman with their car, Jane and her boyfriend start seeing a shadowy figure in the background of the photos Tun, her boyfriend is taking.

Worried that the woman in the photos is the vengeful spirit of the same woman from the car accident, Jane starts to do some research. As the haunting continues, Jane uncovers a shocking truth.

Host

This might be the latest scary movie that I think is really good! I watched this movie about a month ago (yes, I watch scary movies all year round), and while I didn't expect much from it, I was pleasantly surprised.

This movie takes place in our modern pandemic world, where a group of friends decide to do a fun candle lighting ceremony over a zoom call.

It was meant to be fun, but when one of the friends start mocking the spirits, everything starts to take a turn for the worst.

It definitely wasn't a high budge movie or anything, but I loved the Zoom call element to it. I thought it was just really enjoyable! Definitely recommend.

The Nightmare Before Christmas

I watched this on one of the nights of Christmas on ABC Family (oh wait, it's not called that anymore...on Freeform). It's such a classic. It's a musical claymation where our main character Jack is tired of Halloween.

He thinks that there's more to life, and while wandering in the forest he finds these doors. He enters one of them and finds all about Christmas! He steals all of the decorations from the Christmasland, and brings them back to his world.

I don't want to give too much away, but it's a nice entertaining watch!

Practical Magic

This is another movie that's a nice chill Halloween movie. It's not scary at all, for those of you are not horror movie fans. This stars a young Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman.

Sally and Gillian have been born into a magical family of witches. Instead of spending their time mastering their craft, they spend it avoiding witchcraft.

That was, until Gillian's boyfriend mysterious dies. The moment that happened, they realized they had to take a crash course of everything witchcraft.

It's an oldie, but a goodie!

The Sixth Sense

While most people have already seen this movie, I couldn't not add it to one of my Halloween movie lists. This is another classic with Bruce Willis.

Young Cole is haunted by a secret, he can see and talk to ghosts. Cole is extremely scared by those who visit him with unresolved issues at all hours of the day.

He's skeptical to talk to anyone about it, except Child Psychologist, Dr. Crowe. As Dr. Crowe tries to help Cole work through his ghost problem, he finds a shocking truth himself.

A Quiet Place

When people hyped up this movie, I thought it was going to be completely overrated. I was so off the mark with this one. This story is unique, and just a great watch. It's interesting that a movie with so little dialogue can be so good.

If they hear you, they hunt you. A family must live in silence in order to survive. Knowing that even a too loud whisper can bring death, Lee & Evelyn are determined to find a way to protect their children, while also finding a way to fight back.

I would consider this more a suspense than anything else, but anything that involves monsters has that scary factor to it. I cannot say this enough, this movie is good...really good.

The Babadook

I found this movie on Netflix a few years back, and while I didn't have high hopes, I weirdly enjoyed it.

A single mother has been trying to navigate life after her husband's death. Then she finds out her son's been seeing a monster throughout the house. She doesn't think anything of it at first, and then she starts to feel this dark presence around the house.

The Invisible Man

This was another recent release that I enjoyed. This is not in the horror genre, I would categorize it a thriller.

While I enjoyed this movie, I thought it was weird that from the beginning you know how this is going to go down. You watch the trailer and they give you the whole plot!

After staging his own suicide, a crazy scientist uses his power to become invisible, and stalk and "haunt" his ex-girlfriend.

Since no one believes her, she decides she has to take care of this problem herself.

Elizabeth Moss is an amazing actress, and the role in this movie is no exception. It's definitely an enjoyable watch.

The Strangers

When Kristen and James go to spend the weekend at a family vacation home, they expect to unwind and relax. Their stay ends up being anything but relaxing.

It all starts when an odd woman shows up at their doorstep while James is out running an errand.

When they accidentally kill their friend James, thinking he was an intruder, it all goes down hill from there!

This is just one of those sick movies where people do something little to no motive.

The Silence of the Lambs

This stars one of my favorite actors ever, Anthony Hopkins! I try to watch anything he stars in, because he's an amazing actor.

The story follows Clarice, a top student in the FBI academy. Her boss, Jack Crawford, wants her to interview Dr. Hannibal Lector, a brilliant psychiatrist who is also a violent psychopath, who is serving life in prison for multiple acts of murder and cannibalism.

They are working on another case, and Jack Crawford things that the beautiful and young Clarice can get some insight and information from Hannibal.

I watched this movie semi-recently, and really enjoyed it! It's also extremely interesting to see what influence the tv show Hannibal, got from the original movies. I had no idea that Clarice's boss' name was Jack Crawford, just like in the show. It's little things like that, I get excited for!

Definitely recommend giving this a watch.

Misery

I had to share some Stephen King classics. I think this was the first Stephen King movie I ever watched. It's not necessarily scary, but it is an amazing thriller.

After Paul gets into a terrible car accident, he's rescued by former nurse Annie who says she's his biggest fan. She ends up bringing him to her cabin in the middle of nowhere to allow him to recover.

Her obsession takes a dark turn, when she finds out that Paul is killing off her favorite character in his latest novel.

The Shining

Again, this is probably a movie you've all watched, but I had to include it. It's a classic!

When Jack becomes the caretaker for the Overlook Hotel in Colorado, he hopes that it's going to cure his writer's block. He settles in with his wife and young son. Things start to get strange when his son, Danny, starts getting psychic premonitions. As Jack's writing gets nowhere, Danny's visions get stronger and more disturbing.

Once Jack realizes the dark secret of the hotel, he falls into a manic homicidal episode.

While the first post in this series was a little more balanced, in this post I tried to give you guys some quality scary movies! I feel like it's so hard to find some scary movies that are scary, yet has a good plot.

I feel like there is a special sweet spot when it comes to scary movies. They don't necessarily have to be bloody, and I would prefer if they weren't gory. But they have to have a plot that makes sense!

I hope I gave you guys some new Halloween movies during this season! Are there any movies that aren't on either of my two lists that you recommend? If so, please let me know in the comments down below! As always, I hope you have a wonderful day/night. Sending you love, strength, and positivity xx
