Awake by Natasha Preston - 2 1/2 Stars

I want to say a few things before I start this review. I was extremely disappointed this book. I am a huge fan of Natasha Preston's first published book, The Cellar. It was amazing from beginning to end. This book was not at that level of greatness at all.

This is the back of the book summary:

"Scarlett Garner doesn't remember anything before the age of four- but a car accident changes everything. She starts to remember pieces of a past that frighten her. A past her parents hid from her... and a secret that could get her killed."

Now, I don't know about you, but this book seemed super mysterious and interesting! I had no idea how the plot could end up. I like books that don't seem predictable. I feel like I get my money's worth if I don't constantly know what's going to happen.

As the back of the book stated, it's about a high school girl named Scarlett, who doesn't remember anything before the age of four. Now, my first criticism is why it's such an early age? I know plenty of people who don't remember their early years, and it doesn't seem to bother them much. Maybe I'm just nitpicking. I feel like it would have been a little more odd if she didn't remember some of her life from a later age?

It goes through her day of school, and there's a cute new student at school. His name's Noah, and he's extremely different from the typical teenage boy. They get to know each other, and as soon as you know it, they're in love. Very teenage romance-y. It happens at a super fast pace, where there isn't much character development, in my opinion. I don't like characters that change drastically into this sappy romance character. When they turn into that sap, they lose their uniqueness as a character. I was a little annoyed that it turned into that.

As the book progressed, the character kept hinting as some things, that really didn't add up. By the end of the book, I didn't know how I felt about it. I felt like it was semi-rushed, but at the same time was extremely random? I liked the concept, because it hasn't been done before. I just felt like the concept wasn't very well executed. I wasn't a fan of either of the main characters.

I don't think I would really recommend this book to anyone, because there are wayy better things to read out there. I would tell you guys to read her other book The Cellar if you like suspense and mystery!

Hope you guys have a wonderful day/night.

I've never read this before, but I agree that lots of people don't remember things before the age of four! My first actual memory from being a kid was the day before I turned five when my Mom was telling me "you're going to be five tomorrow!". So I don't think it's that mysterious to not remember anything before that! It's always disappointing when you love a book from an author but the other books don't measure up!
